
It is used in two ways, either (i) as a bed layer for receiving other types of DPC or (ii) as a waterproofing plaster. For the bedding layer, mortar is prepared by mixing cement and sand in the ratio of 1:3 and adding a little lime to increase the workability. For waterproof plasterwork, mortar is prepared by mixing any of the following:
1 cement: 2 sand alum and soapy water,
Cement: sand in a ratio of 1:3, with patented waterproof materials such as Padio, Dampro and Sica. After this plaster is applied to a thickness of 2–4 cm, it is painted with two coats of hot bitumen.
