What are Clamps

The shape of the clamp is usually trapezoidal. A brick wall is built at the short end and a layer of fuel is placed on the prepared floor. Commonly used fuels include cow dung, garbage, rice husk, wood, coal etc. The thickness of the fuel layer ranges from 70 to 80 cm. After this, a layer consisting of 4 or 5 courses of raw bricks is laid. Ample space is provided for air circulation. Alternate layers of fuel and bricks are placed on it. The total height of the clamp is about 3-4 meters. When about one-third of the height is reached, the lower part of the clamp is ignited so that the bricks in the lower part can be fired while the brickwork in the upper part continues. After the construction is completed, it is completely plastered with mud to prevent heat. The clamps are allowed to burn for 1 or 2 months and cooling is also done for 2 months and later the burnt bricks are removed.
