These mortars contain both cement and lime as essential ingredients plus fine aggregate which is usually sand. The addition of cement to lime mortar considerably improves the quality of the mortar, particularly in terms of its workability, setting time, hardening and ultimate strength.
Since gauged mortars contain cement as an essential ingredient, it is important that such mortars are used within 2 hours of their preparation so that there is no deterioration in quality.
