Most CAD computers are Windows-based PCs. Some CAD systems run on one of the Unix operating systems and also on the Linux operating system. Some CAD systems such as QCad, NX or CATIA V5 provide multi-platform support including Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mac OS X. Generally, depending on the CAD software used, no special hardware is required with the possible exception of a good graphics card. However, for complex product designs, machines with faster CPUs and larger amounts of RAM are recommended. CAD was an application that particularly benefited from the installation of numerical coprocessors in early personal computers. Human-machine interface is usually through a computer mouse, but can also be through a pen and graphics tablet. Some systems also support stereoscopic glasses for viewing 3D models.
