Mixing by using hands

For small-scale non-critical concrete works, hand-mixing is practiced. Since the mixing cannot be complete and efficient, 10 percent more cement must be

added to compensate for the inferior concrete produced by this method.

An impervious concrete or brick floor of sufficient size to pick up a bag of cement should be handled. Spread measured amounts of coarse and fine aggregate in alternating layers. Pour cement over it and mix it dry with a shovel, turning the mixture repeatedly until the color is uniform. The mixture is then sprinkled with water and turned over. This operation continues until a good, homogeneous and homogeneous concrete is obtained. It is of particular importance to see that the water is not poured but only sprinkled. A small amount of water should be added at the end of mixing to achieve the desired consistency. At this stage, even a small amount of water makes a difference.
