Solvents in paint

These are volatile substances that are added to paints to make their application easier and smoother. Solvents help paint penetrate through porous surfaces. The most commonly used solvents are alcohol and turpentine. Solvents are also called thinners because of their function of thinning the original paint, which is extremely viscous. They are added to reduce paint blistering properties.
