Today there is a wide variety of wood polymer composite boards commonly known as particle board. Basically, these materials are made from non-chemically processed dry wood particles of various shapes and sizes and either synthetic or adhesive materials.
The basic materials from which particle board is made can be divided into four basic types.
Chips – These are wood particles that are commonly used in pulp production.
Flakes – These are mechanically chopped wood particles and are usually about one-tenth of an inch thick.
Ribbons – These are wood particles of a certain thickness but varying in length.
Shavings – These are wafer-like particles and usually consist of large, wide, short-length thin and torn fibers.
Lingo is another type of cellulosic material that is used in wood-polymer composite materials that are sometimes laminated with particle boards, but they differ primarily in the amount of processing involved in the manufacture of composite wood materials. . Fiberboard is a good example where the degree of fibrization through chemical and physical treatment is much greater than the above materials.
