Cement naturally absorbs moisture and hardens. Therefore, proper care should be taken in storing cement.
5% moisture absorption means that the cement becomes useless and therefore the cement has to be stored in a moisture free environment. It is advised not to store cement in jute bags for more than 3 months. Cement bags should be stored in stacks on top of each other at least 300 mm from the outer walls. 900 mm wide path should be kept between piles. The top and bottom of piles should be covered and waterproofed for long storage.
Prolonged storage weakens the cement, even under favorable conditions.
